Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn is certain Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly will impress Thomas Tuchel if they’re named in his first England squad next week.

Having officially taken over the post at the start of the year, Tuchel is now preparing for his first international break later this month.

The Three Lions face Albania and Latvia as they kickstart their World Cup qualification campaign, with the German set to name his squad next week.

Tuchel has reportedly drawn up a 55-man shortlist to chose from and the performances of Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly are likely to have caught the former Chelsea boss’ eye.

Nwaneri already has eight goals this season in all competitions having only made his Premier League debut against Brentford on New Year’s Day.

Lewis-Skelly’s progress, meanwhile, has has seen him fast-tracked from a promising young talent to regular starter at left-back in Mikel Arteta’s side.

With several injuries and players out of form in both their respective positions, the Arsenal duo could well receive their maiden call-ups to the senior squad.

And former Gunners left-back Winterburn is confident that both will leave a positive impression on Tuchel should he decide to call upon their services.

‘He must be considering them,’ Winterburn told Metro.

‘It might be a bit early but then we have seen under (Gareth) Southgate and (Lee) Carsley that they will bring in younger players at an early stage, just to watch how they react around the senior team.

‘I can tell you for sure, if Tuchel puts those two guys in the squad then he will be impressed by what he sees. They won’t let him down. They’re huge tablets even at a very, very young age.’

Asked about a potential England call-up for his academy duo, Arteta was similarly enthused about the opportunity, saying: ‘Well, knowing Thomas and the coaching staff and the environment that they have created on the England campus, it will be an incredible experience for them.
