Andreas Christensen is open to a move away from Barcelona this month, which could enable the Catalan club to strike a deal for Marcus Rashford.

The former Chelsea centre-back was a regular in the Barca team last season, but has suffered a serious Achilles injury which has kept him out for most of this campaign.

The 28-year-old made just one substitute appearance in La Liga in August and has not played since, although he has returned to the bench after recovering from injury.

He now finds himself behind the likes of Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and the returning Ronald Araujo in the heart of defence.

Barca boss Hansi Flick addressed the Denmark international’s situation at a press conference this week, saying: ‘Christensen? We spoke with Christensen, and he has recovered from a major injury.

‘There are players ahead of him, but we all know his quality, and when he reaches 100 per cent, we’ll see what happens.’

With the defender’s contract coming to an end next year, the club are willing to listen to offers for him and he is considering a move, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

Where Christensen would move to is not clear, although the report suggests it could well be a return to England, stating that the Dane ‘maintains his status in the Premier League.’

If the centre-back does leave the Camp Nou then it could allow Barcelona to bring in Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford this month.

The England international is looking for the Old Trafford exit door after being frozen out by Ruben Amorim and is reportedly willing to accept a pay-cut to move to Barcelona, reducing his current £325,000-a-week salary.

ESPN report that Barcelona have spoken to Rashford’s representatives and there is interest from both sides, but the club would need to secure exits before they can bring him in.

Erik Garcia and Ansu Fati are two players who are available for transfer as Barcelona look to free up space on their wage bill, while a departure for Christensen would also help matters.

Rashford has not played in the Premier League since 7 December when Manchester United were beaten 3-2 by Nottingham Forest.

His last appearance in any competition came five days later in a Europa League win at Viktoria Plzen, but the closest he has come to playing since then was being left on the bench for a home defeat to Newcastle United.

Despite this, and the forward saying he is ready for a new challenge elsewhere, he is reportedly still ready and willing to play for the Red Devils if Amorim decides to call upon him.
