West Ham have agreed a deal with Brighton to sign former Arsenal and Chelsea target Evan Ferguson on loan.

Sky Sports say Ferguson, 20, is set to travel to the London Stadium on Sunday to complete his medical.

At West Ham, Ferguson will be reunited with new Hammers boss Graham Potter, who gave him his debut at Brighton.

Ferguson, once regarded as one of the most highly-rated strikers in the Premier League, will spend the rest of the season on loan at West Ham.

The Republic of Ireland international has 17 Premier League goals but just one this season as he has been forced to play back-up to Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck.

Once linked with some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League – including Chelsea and Arsenal – Ferguson is now in need for some regular game-time as he looks to revive his career.

Chelsea and Arsenal have been monitoring Ferguson’s development over the past 12 months, with the Gunners in desperate need for a new striker.

But West Ham, also in need for some attacking reinforcements, have won the race to sign Ferguson on loan for the rest of the rest.

West Ham have taken four points from Potter’s first three games in charge of the club since the former Brighton boss was appointed to replace Julen Lopetegui.

Ferguson could make his West Ham debut on Monday night when Potter’s team travel across London to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Lucas Paqueta started as a false nine in West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last weekend, with Danny Ings coming on as a second-half sub.

Michail Antonio, West Ham’s all-time record goalscorer in the Premier League, has been ruled out of the entire season after being involved in a car crash in December.

Germany striker Niclas Fullkrug, meanwhile, has struggled with fitness since his £17m move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, starting just three league games.

Ex-West Ham midfielder Joe Cole recently endorsed the club’s deal for Ferguson and said it would be a good move for the Irish forward.

‘Listen, if I’m his agent I’m saying to him go to West Ham,’ Cole said. ‘You’re not going to get into the Brighton team.

‘You’re going to take a step up and play, you need games, you’re a young kid you need games, come and play for West Ham, it hasn’t worked for Fullkrug yet, go there.’
