However, the FA announced late last year the system would not be used in this competition until the fifth road onwards.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the FA in December said: \u2018Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will only be used in the 2024-25 Emirates FA Cup from the Fifth Round onwards.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"430\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22519685 lazyload\" alt=\"FBL-ENG-FA CUP-MAN UTD-LEICESTER\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/preforeclosurefortunes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/GettyImages-2197602601.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Maguire met Fernandes&#8217; cross with a superb header (OLI SCARFF\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2018It has been agreed that VAR will be utilised for every match in the Fifth Round of the competition through to the Final at Wembley Stadium, and will not be in operation for the Third and Fourth Rounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018VAR has only been used in the Emirates FA Cup previously for matches at Wembley Stadium and at Premier League grounds due to the infrastructure, workforce and costs that are required for its operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This decision ensures that there is a consistent refereeing approach for all clubs taking part in the same stage of the competition.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>More to follow<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maguire was the man of the moment in extra time (Picture: Gareth Copley\/Getty Images) Harry Maguire was Manchester United\u2019s hero in their FA Cup fourth round win over Leicester City with a goal that would perhaps have been ruled out on another day.
