Manchester United are unlikely to explore a sensational move for Harry Kane despite news of a release clause in his Bayern Munich contract emerging.

Kane is enjoying another superb season in Germany following his big-money move from Tottenham in August 2023.

The Englishman scored 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga games last campaign, although he saw his quest for silverware denied after Bayer Leverkusen claimed their first league title following a superb campaign.

Kane, however, now looks set to finally end his trophy drought having scored 21 goals in 19 games to help Bayern storm into an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Despite flourishing in Bavaria, Kane’s future at Bayern has come under intriguing speculation in recent days after it emerged that the England captain has a £54million release clause that can be activated next January.

Despite turning 32 in July, that fee may prove enticing for several clubs who could be in the market for a proven goalscorer in the middle of the next campaign.

United were strongly linked with a move for Kane prior to his move to Bayern but instead opted to pay £72m for Rasmus Hojlund.

However, Hojlund as well as last summer’s signing, Joshua Zirkzee, have both failed to deliver the goods since their respective moves to Old Trafford, leaving United still searching for a reliable goalscorer under Ruben Amorim.

Despite that, the Red Devils are said to be unlikely to revive any interest in Kane due to his age and wage demands, according to Fabrizio Romano.

‘A deal for €80m was available in January and not valid in the summer, but there was not even one single contact with Premier League clubs as Kane is not even planning for a move as of now,’ Romano wrote in Give Me Sport.

‘He’s very happy in Munich, his family is happy in Germany and Bayern are absolutely planning with Kane also for next season.

‘However, there’s one more clause for next year, which is only available in January 2026 and worth €65m. It won’t be possible to proceed with the clause in summer 2026, but that clause could set the price in case some club decides to enter the race after the USA World Cup. It’s one to watch, for sure.

‘Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be a big fan of Harry Kane, but the Manchester United project is going in a different direction, trusting young players, reducing salaries and following different principles, so there’s nothing really concrete in this rumour despite recent reports.’

Paul Merson, meanwhile, urged Arsenal to consider a remarkable deal for the former Spurs captain as they search for a star striker to lead the line.

‘I keep on saying Isak but there’s not a lot around. I’d go Harry Kane. I’d pay the £60-odd million for Harry Kane,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘He’s got that clause. If he wins the league which he should with Bayern now but when he does that I think that’s it and come back.

‘If he thinks he can beat Shearer’s record at Tottenham, but I don’t see the point coming back to Tottenham.

‘There’s no point just coming back just to beat that and I don’t think he’d have as much of a chance of beating that than he would at Arsenal.’

Kane, however, looked to dismiss any talk regarding an exit from Bayern, telling reporters on Friday: ‘What I can say is that I’m very happy at FC Bayern. No comment on the clause.’
