href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/lily-allen\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Lily Allen<\/a>, we seem to hear far too regular reports about famous women being stalked by men.<\/p>\n<p>But rarely do we see the immediate <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/20\/tennis-stars-reveal-safety-fears-threats-emma-raducanu-incident-22593343\/\">impact of this violent and terrifying behaviour<\/a>, as witnessed on <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/emma-raducanu\/\">Emma Raducanu<\/a>\u2019s face this week when she <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/18\/emma-raducanu-bursts-into-tears-during-rollercoaster-defeat-to-karolina-muchova-in-dubai-22584103\/\">became clearly scared<\/a> and hid behind the umpire\u2019s chair while playing a tennis match in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>Unbeknown to those watching that a man in the front rows of the stadium had clearly done something to upset her. <\/p>\n<p>We are now hearing that the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/19\/emma-raducanu-given-letter-stalker-ejected-dubai-match-fixated-behaviour-22588821\/\">same man had shown \u2018fixated behaviour\u2019 <\/a>towards her, delivering a letter to her at her hotel hours before the game.<\/p>\n<p>He has now been banned from all WTA events worldwide, but this incident poses a serious question: where are women safe?<\/p>\n<p>In my role as a consultant and educator, I am often recruited to increase women\u2019s feelings of safety \u2013 whether that\u2019s in public, online, or at legislation being passed last year through the Workers\u2019 Protection Bill to ensure they are safe from harassment in their place of work.<\/p>\n<p>However, too often, I have heard women recount stories of feeling unsafe. <\/p>\n<p>This can be in places like the night-time economy where women experience high rates of harassment by male customers, to nurses receiving threatening and intimidating behaviour from patients \u2013 it isn\u2019t rare. Dubai Championships - Dubai Tennis Stadium, Dubai, United Arab Emirates - February 16, 2025 Britain's Emma Raducanu during her round of 64 match against Greece's Maria Sakkari REUTERS\/Amr Alfiky\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/preforeclosurefortunes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/SEI_240193411-62b2.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Raducanu was unsettled during the match (Picture: Reuters)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With all the media present at this game, it goes to show just how brazen and obsessive this behaviour is and, clearly, it is something that famous women endure far too often. <\/p>\n<p>Hearing that this isn\u2019t her first encounter with a stalker shows just how prevalent this form of male violence is.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/12\/03\/victims-stalking-often-left-dark-not-anymore-22102222\/\">Stalking<\/a> is also particularly misunderstood, not just among the general public, but through huge gaps in the criminal justice system. This indicates just how underestimated this compulsive and obsessive behaviour is and how indicative that offenders may perpetrate more serious violence in the future.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/11\/16\/gracie-spinks-23-stabbed-death-a-colleague-reported-stalking-19833984\/\">Just look at the case of Gracie Spinks,<\/a> who was murdered in 2021 by a man she reported to police for stalking her months before he brutally killed her. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22593421 lazyload\" alt=\"Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships - Day Three\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/preforeclosurefortunes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/GettyImages-2200455464_971997.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>It isn’t Raducanu’s first experience with a stalker (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The jury listed a number of police failings \u2013 with Derbyshire Police even offering their \u2018most sincere apologies\u2019 \u2013 but they could not conclude that these contributed to Gracie\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>The list of celebrity women in the public eye subjected to violence from men goes on and on. <\/p>\n<p>Holly Willoughby bravely revoked her right to anonymity in a case against a stalker who was jailed last year for his plan to kidnap, rape, and murder her after becoming obsessed with the TV star.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"476\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22361191 lazyload\" alt=\"Holly Willoughby posing on the red carpet, in a black dress.\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/preforeclosurefortunes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/GettyImages-2187178677-5af3-e1736873228519.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Holly Willoughby spoke out about her own experience (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Those of us old enough will also remember the horrific event of Monica Seles being stabbed live on TV while playing a match against Magdalena Maleeva in Germany in 1993. Described then as a \u2018fan\u2019 of Steffi Graf \u2013 who Seles had a sporting rivalry with \u2013 the incident led to much increased security measures for players at games.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, these stories seem to be more prevalent than ever.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, social media and an increased online presence plays its part in the increase of obsessive and threatening behaviour towards women, with Technology-Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV) being an issue in its own right. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"513\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22594190 lazyload\" alt=\"SELES V PO\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/preforeclosurefortunes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/GettyImages-225568_1ca324-e1740049778778.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Monica Seles was stabbed on court (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This is where abusers will strategically use things like social media and other online platforms to abuse others. <\/p>\n<p>There have even been stories of men using online bank transfers to send ex-partners abusive messages to continue harassment.  <\/p>\n<p>However, what this really proves is that violent and misogynistic men will use any means possible to intimidate and threaten women, regardless of where they are.<\/p>\n<p>Until we eradicate the phenomena of male entitlement \u2013 which allows men to believe they have ownership over women and their bodies \u2013 we will continue to see and hear terrifying stories of this nature.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope, for Emma and all the women out there, that, as a society we finally heed this wake up call and recognise the seriousness and threat of male violence for all women. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Do you have a story you\u2019d like to share?
