Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn is certain Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly will impress Thomas Tuchel if they’re named in his first England squad next week.

Having officially taken over the post at the start of the year, Tuchel is now preparing for his first international break later this month.

The Three Lions face Albania and Latvia as they kickstart their World Cup qualification campaign, with the German set to name his squad next week.

Tuchel has reportedly drawn up a 55-man shortlist to chose from and the performances of Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly are likely to have caught the former Chelsea boss’ eye.

Nwaneri already has eight goals this season in all competitions having only made his Premier League debut against Brentford on New Year’s Day.

Lewis-Skelly’s progress, meanwhile, has  has seen him fast-tracked from a promising young talent to regular starter at left-back in Mikel Arteta’s side.

With several injuries and players out of form in both their respective positions, the Arsenal duo could well receive their maiden call-ups to the senior squad.

And former Gunners left-back Winterburn is confident that both will leave a positive impression on Tuchel should he decide to call upon their services.

‘He must be considering them,’ Winterburn told Metro.

‘It might be a bit early but then we have seen under (Gareth) Southgate and (Lee) Carsley that they will bring in younger players at an early stage, just to watch how they react around the senior team.

‘I can tell you for sure, if Tuchel puts those two guys in the squad then he will be impressed by what he sees. They won’t let him down. They’re huge tablets even at a very, very young age.’

Asked about a potential England call-up for his academy duo, Arteta was similarly enthused about the opportunity, saying: ‘Well, knowing Thomas and the coaching staff and the environment that they have created on the England campus, it will be an incredible experience for them.

‘If that’s the case, whenever that is. That’s not my decision, that will be their decision. How we manage them here, it’s ours. It’s in our control.

‘Down there, we’ll leave it to coaches and people that are super experienced. Much more experienced than me.’

Both players may have their final chance to impress Tuchel on Sunday when the Gunners face off against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

With a win, Arsenal can become the first team to win five successive games against United in the competition’s history and Winterburn is confident his former side will do just that.

‘The good results that United have had under Amorim have been against the bigger teams, including versus Arsenal in the FA Cup so I still think it will be tight and competitive,’ he said.

‘But I still believe if they take that confidence from midweek to Old Trafford with that more aggressive running in behind which we saw, then they will win the game.’

Nigel Winterburn was talking to Metro on behalf of https://pika-kasinot.com/.
